This Friday, September 1, join us for our first Independent Film showing at the library, for free. We will be showing "The Man of the Year" by Jose Henrique Fonseca. The showing begins at 2:30 PM in our main meeting room at the Chestertown Branch, and lasts 106 minutes, ending in time to head down to the First Friday art gallery openings nearby. There will be popcorn and lemonade. This showing is limited to patrons over 18 or with parental permission.

Young man loses a bet and becomes the hero of a whole town....

Meet Maiquel (as Michael) in his incredible destiny: the unemployed car salesman turned assassin-for-hire who becomes the owner of a highly successful security firm. Based on the award-winning novel by Patricia Melo "O Matador" (Brazil 1995; translated and published in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands among other countries), "The Man of the Year" marks the feature film debut of director Jose Henrique Fonseca.

The Kent County Public Library book group will be having a discussion of "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson on Wednesday, August 30 at 5:30 PM in the yellow building behind the library. If you've read the book, whether or not you're a current member of the group, you would be welcome to join us for the discussion.

The Kent County Public Library has offered story times and programs for children for years. Now the library is branching out and offering programs for adults as well.

This fall alone, the library in Chestertown will be hosting speakers for seminars and workshops, showing Independent Films on the big screen (First Fridays at 2:30 PM), hosting a book discussion group (Last Wednesdays at 5:30 PM) and a readers' forum for discussing what you've read and would like to read (Second Tuesday Brownbag lunches at Noon), and offering a free series of courses in basic computer skills (Thursdays at 2:30 PM October 5-November 9).
