Pardon Our Dust... so to speak

The Rock Hall Branch of the Kent County Public Library is undergoing some improvements. There will be new carpeting, new wooden bookshelves, and a more reader friendly and open atmosphere. Unfortunately, while these changes are taking place, the branch may be a bit disorderly. We're happy to be able to keep the branch open for you during this process, and hope you'll overlook the mess. The improvements should be worth it in the end. As always, you can request any item from any of our branches be sent to any other branch for pickup, and you can return your items at any of our branches.

Independent Film: "Viva Cuba"

Our First Friday independent film showing this month will be "Viva Cuba." For more information about the film, visit FilmMovement.com. Popcorn included. Chestertown Branch, Friday, September 7 at 2:30 PM, in time to attend the other First Friday events in Chestertown afterwards. Free of charge.

Synopsis: In a tale akin to "Romeo and Juliet," the friendship between two children is threatened by their parents' differences. Malú is from an upper-class family and her single mother does not want her to play with Jorgito, as she thinks his background coarse and commonplace. Jorgito's mother a poor socialist proud of her family's social standing, places similar restrictions on her son. What neither woman recognizes is the immense strength of the bond between Malú and Jorgito. When the children learn that Malú's mother is planning to leave Cuba, they decide to travel to the other side of the island to find Malú's father and persuade him against signing the forms that would allow it.
