Celebrate Children's Book Week with a Local Author (5/14) - Cancelled

This year Children's Book Week is May 12-17. To celebrate children's book author Stormy Friday will be visiting the library! Stormy Friday is the author of Signal's Airport Adventure. She lives in Arnold, MD. Wednesday, May 14, 6:15 PM.

"The Frog Prince" Puppet Show (4/30, 5/2)

Ages 2-6 years.

April 28th is the National Day of Puppetry! To celebrate, we will be putting on a special puppet show of the lovable fairy tale "The Frog Prince."

Wednesday, April 30 at 6:30 PM and Friday, May 2 at 9:45 AM.

National Library Week Proclamation

This morning the Kent County Commissioners issued a National Library Week 2008 Proclamation. Kent County Public Library staff would like to thank the County Commissioners, as well as the library stakeholders who were in attendance.

The text of the proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, our nation's school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever;

WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in the 21st century;

WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream - places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning;

WHEREAS, library use is up nationwide among all types of library users, continuing a decade-long trend;

WHEREAS, libraries play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities;

WHEREAS, libraries can help you discover a world of knowledge, both in person and online, as well as personal service and assistance in finding what you need, when you need it;

WHEREAS, libraries are a key player in the national discourse on intellectual freedom, equity of access, and narrowing the "digital divide;"

WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week with The Campaign for America's Libraries.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Kent County Commissioners proclaim National Library Week, April 13-19, 2008. I encourage all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available and thank their librarians and library workers for making information accessible to all who walk through the library's doors. Many thanks are extended to the Friends of the Library, Chestertown Literary Society, Library Trustees, and the Foundation for the Kent County Public Library. Join the circle of knowledge @ your library.

New - Toddler Story Times

Beginning May 13th there will be a new program for 2 and 3 year olds at the Kent County Public Library. Toddlers will have socialization and play time at 10:30 leading into story time at 11:00 am. Toddler Story Time will be the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of the month, after Baby Story Time. We look forward to seeing you and your Toddlers at the Chestertown Library Branch.

"Jazz & Java" Event to Kick Off National Library Week (April 14)

Celebrate National LIbrary week with us on Monday, April 14th from 5-6 PM with live Jazz music provided by the Washington College Jazz Combo and free coffee in the stacks at the Chestertown Branch. Continue celebrating all week long in all the branches with our guessing game... How many books are there in the Kent County Public Library collection?

Tuesday, April 15th at 9:30 AM in the County Commissioners Meeting Room at 400 High Street, the Kent County Commissioners will issue their official National Library Week 2008 Proclamation. For more information on National Library Week, visit the American Library Association website.
