Maryland Poet Laureate, Michael Glaser at the Library (5/14)

The Friends of the Library invite you to join us for the annual open meeting, Wednesday, May 14th at the Main branch of the Kent County Public Library. There will be a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 followed by a reading by special guest Maryland Poet Laureate and author, Michael Glaser at 6:00 PM in the outdoor amphitheater.

He will be reading from his own work as well as that of other contemporary writers (especially former Maryland Poet Laureates) to discuss and illustrate the power of poetry to help both nurture and challenge us to live fully and joyously this "one wild and precious life" that Mary Oliver reminds us is ours. The program will engage participants in writing their own poems and experiencing first hand how poetry can help us reaffirm the unique value of our individual lives and the various communities in which we live.

Dr. Glaser has been at St. Mary's College of Maryland as both a professor and administrator for over 35 years. He has served as a Maryland State Arts Council Poet-in-the-Schools and he is a recipient of the Homer Dodge Endowed Award for Excellence in Teaching as well as the Columbia Merit Award for service to poetry. A widely sought speaker, he has published more than 400 poems in a variety of venues. His most recent book is Being a Father.
