The Truth about The Very Hungry Caterpillar (8/1)

For ages 3 and up. Beth Hill, local entomologist, reads Eric Carle's classic book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, with a new twist. Come to this storytime and learn all about caterpillars. A craft is included. Friday, August 1 at 9:45 am.

Upcoming Book Discussions (7/29, 30)

The Kent County Public Library book group will be having a discussion of "Rise and Shine" by Anna Quindlen on Wednesday, July 30 at 5:30 PM. This month's meeting will be a picnic held at a member's home rather than in the library, so call for directions.

The Kent Nonfiction Book Group will meet on Tuesday, July 29 at Noon in the Yellow Building behind the Chestertown branch to Read "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell. Call the library if you're interested in participating.

Puppet Show in Fountain Park (7/25)

Bring the whole family to fountain park for Steven's Puppets marionette rendition of "Sleeping Beauty" sponsored by the Kent County Public Library. Our puppet show is always a popular event during Crazy Days, so bring a blanket and save your space. Friday, July 25 at 11:00 AM.

Summer Reading Club 2008 - Catch the Reading Bug

Hey kids! Buzz on over to the Kent County Public Library and play Catch the Reading Bug this summer (June 13-August 8). Just pick up a "Catch the Reading Bug" game board and bag of goodies at any library branch any time this summer. Do the reading at your own pace, complete the activities on the game board and turn in your coupons for prizes. Even if you can't read you are welcome to play!

Kids who complete the game will be awarded a tee shirt and will be entered into a drawing for a Playaway audiobook.

The summer reading club kick-off will be a week long celebration, featuring special guests flitting around, buggy crafts, balloons and refreshments beginning June 16th. For exact performer times check the library website calendar.

To get into the summer reading spirit, check out the "Catch the Bug" Themesong, a hip-hop rap done by Secret Agent 23 Skidoo.

New & Hot @ Your Library

We have lots of new books, audiobooks, movies, music and more showing up at the library every day. So, we have the New & Hot page on our Web site devoted to showing you what's new to the library, what's coming soon, and what's currently on the New York Times Bestseller lists. These lists link directly into our catalog so you can easily place requests for the books you want, and get a call when they're ready for you to pick up at the circulation desk.

The new book & bestseller lists have been updated today, so now's the time to place your hold. And, if you need any help with your account or placing holds online, we'd be happy to help.

Insect Inspector Institute (7/7-11)

Insect Inspector Institute is a half day "camp" for ages 7-12 at the Kent County Library Chestertown Branch. It runs 2-4 PM July 7 through July 11. Kids will explore bees, butterflies, and insects. We will have appearances by guest speakers Lisa's World "Butterflies are Magic," Local Entymologist Beth Hill, and Local Bee Keeper Bartholomew's Bees. Crafts everyday and snacks and drinks provided.
