Kent County Free Seed Library

What is a Seed Library?

The Kent County Free Seed Library is a free community resource that provides seeds for growing vegetables, herbs, fruits, and native pollinator-attracting flowers. You can use it to grow your own food, support biodiversity, and build local food system resilience.

The seed collection is curated by Master Gardener Volunteers from the University of Maryland Extension’s Kent County Office and includes plants that are easy to grow and well-suited to home gardens in this area.

How to Use the Seed Library

Browse the Seeds

Visit the seed showcase to see what varieties are currently available. The seed collection changes throughout the year, so check back regularly. You can choose up to 4 seed varieties a week.

Pick Up Seeds & Find Info

When you’ve made your selection, talk to library staff to fill out a checkout slip and pick up your seeds. They can also help you find community resources and books on gardening.

Grow & Give Back

Plant your seeds, grow your garden, and then give back by donating seeds you harvest after the growing season.

When donating seeds you have saved, please include as much of the following information as possible:

  • The plant’s common name
  • The plant’s scientific name
  • The year the seeds were collected
  • Any helpful notes about your experience with growing the plant

Donated seeds should be from a recent growing season for best germination. Seeds that are too old to reliably germinate may be discarded, at the discretion of the Master Gardener volunteers.
